Terms of use.
Last updated: August 23, 2026. Effective: August 23, 2026.
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Syftable desktop app, the Syftable browser extension, or any other Syftable capture component (together, "the App"), or this website, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you don't agree, don't use the App or the website.
2. License to use the app
Syftable Inc. grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the App on computers and browsers you own or control, for as long as you comply with these terms. During the free trial, this license covers full use of the App for 30 days. If the trial ends without a purchase, the license is limited to viewing and exporting the data you already recorded. With a paid subscription, the license covers every version released while your subscription is active. If a paid subscription ends, you keep a permanent license to use the App as it worked in the last version you received while paid. A trial that ends without a purchase doesn't create a permanent license. Syftable Inc. retains all ownership of the App and its underlying code; this license covers use, not ownership.
3. What you can do
Use the App for your own personal or business work. Install the desktop app on any computer you own or control, and the browser extension in any browser you own or control. Connect and disconnect optional sources like Gmail or Calendar as you see fit. Export everything you've recorded, in full, at any time, including after your trial ends or your subscription ends. There's no feature gate on your own data.
4. What you can't do
Don't resell, sublicense, or redistribute the App. Don't reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble it except where the law explicitly allows it. Don't use the App, or anything exported from it, to build a competing product. Don't bypass, reset, or tamper with the free trial period or the license check. Don't remove or obscure copyright or proprietary notices. Don't use the App to violate any law or another person's privacy or rights.
5. Your data
The browser extension captures activity in your browser and sends it to the desktop app on the same computer. The desktop app processes it and stores it locally, in one encrypted folder. When we add new capture surfaces, such as your desktop and local apps and files, they follow the same rule: everything stays on your computer. Syftable Inc. does not hold a copy, cannot access it, and cannot restore it for you if it's lost. There's no server-side backup, because there's no server the data lives on. See the Privacy policy for the full detail on what's captured and where it goes.
6. Free trial, payments, and refunds
The free trial lasts 30 days from the first time you open the App. You don't need an account or a payment card to start it, and the trial never turns into a paid subscription automatically.
When the trial ends, the App stops capturing until you buy a subscription. You can still open the desktop app to view and export everything you recorded during the trial. Subscriptions are sold through our payment provider, which handles checkout and activates your license when you buy.
Subscriptions are billed annually at the rate on the pricing page and renew automatically at the end of each year, at the renewal rate on the pricing page, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time through the link in your receipt email or by contacting support. Cancelling stops the next renewal, and your subscription stays active until the end of the year you already paid for. If you're not happy with a charge, including a renewal, contact support within 14 days of that charge for a full refund.
7. Updates and support
Your subscription includes every update released while it's active, plus support. If you cancel, or a renewal payment fails, your subscription ends, but you don't lose the App. It keeps capturing and working as it did in the last version you received while paid, without new features. Security updates are still provided after your subscription ends for up-to 12-months after your subscription ends. Reactivating your subscription resumes updates from where you left off.
8. Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We don't guarantee the App will be error-free or uninterrupted.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Syftable Inc.'s total liability arising from these terms or your use of the App is capped at the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
10. Termination
You can stop using the App at any time by uninstalling the desktop app, removing the browser extension, and deleting your local ~/.syftable folder. Uninstalling doesn't cancel your subscription; cancel it as described in section 6 to stop renewals. We may terminate this license if you materially breach these terms. Either way, since your data was never on our servers, there's nothing on our end to delete when you leave.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in it, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and flag material changes in the App or in the changelog.
