Privacy

The short version.

Syftable is built so we can't see your data even if we wanted to.

Everything runs on your machine. Nothing is uploaded, nothing trains AI, and there's no account for you to log into because there's no server to log into.

Syftable does
  • Store your data on your Mac, in one folder (~/.syftable)
  • Encrypt that folder at rest
  • Lets you turn capture off from any website, anytime
  • Let you export everything to plain Markdown
  • Let you wipe everything in one click
Syftable does not
  • Send your data to a company server
  • Hold an account for you (except your licensing purchase)
  • Use your data to train AI
  • Sell or share your data
  • Track you across the web

One caveat: If you connect an internet service like Gmail or Calendar, Syftable fetches from that service on your behalf. What comes back is stored on your Mac.

The full policy

For the record.

Last updated: August 25, 2026. Effective: August 25, 2026.

1. What Syftable stores

Everything lives in one folder on your Mac — ~/.syftable — encrypted at rest. Depending on which sources you turn on, that folder holds: documents you open and edit, PDFs and pages you read, clipboard history, calendar events, meeting audio (off by default), on-device OCR of screen text, and messages from apps you connect, like Slack or Mail. Alongside the raw content, Syftable keeps the shape of your work — what you looked at, in what order, for how long, and what you abandoned — so it can answer questions about it later.

2. What leaves your Mac

Nothing, by default. The only outbound activity is: checking for app updates — which also confirms your subscription is active so it knows whether to deliver the update, and which you can turn off in Settings if you'd rather check manually — and, only if you connect them, one-way fetches from Gmail or Calendar to pull in messages or events on your behalf. Nothing travels back to those services, and the App itself runs fully offline: it never needs to reach our servers to open, search, or record.

3. Connected services

Gmail and Calendar are opt-in. Connecting either requests read-only access scoped to what Syftable needs to fetch your messages or events — nothing is ever sent back to those accounts. Whatever is fetched is written straight into your local encrypted folder, same as everything else. Disconnect a source at any time from Settings; nothing further is read from it once you do.

4. Analytics and telemetry

The Syftable Mac app itself sends no telemetry, crash reports, or usage analytics anywhere — there's no server for that data to go to. This website (syftable.app) is a separate thing: it uses a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool (Umami) to see aggregate traffic like page views, so we know what's working. It doesn't track you across other sites, and nothing recorded by the app is ever part of it.

5. Security

Your ~/.syftable folder is encrypted at rest. Any credentials for connected services are stored in the macOS Keychain, not in plain files. The app is notarized by Apple and runs sandboxed, so it only reads the sources you've explicitly switched on — nothing more.

6. Children

Syftable is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK), and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone in that age range.

7. Your rights

Because your record lives on your own Mac, you already have full access, export, and deletion rights over it — open the folder in Finder, export everything to plain Markdown, or delete it in one click, any time, without asking us. For the small amount of data we may hold outside the app (like an early-access email address), contact privacy@syftable.com to request access or deletion.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and flag material changes in the App or in the changelog.
